The world of apprenticeships and study subjects is constantly changing. This is why it is often not easy for parents to support their daughters and sons. The IfT Institut für Talententwicklung supports parents and their offspring. Parents are the most important career advisors for their children.

The right training or study program for your child

If your career choice is a topic at home, you've come to the right place. We, the IfT Instiut für Talententwicklung, are Germany's largest organizer of fairs for training+studies. Benefit from our wide range of services, our network and our many years of experience.

This is what we can do for you:

  • We provide tips and advice on how and to what extent you can support your child's career choice.
  • You and your child will receive inspiration and specific offers for internships, apprenticeships, courses of study, working abroad, FSJ & Co.
  • We bring you and your child into contact with experts at our fairs in your area and digitally.
  • With us, you and your child can make contact with companies, universities, technical colleges, academies, advisory institutions, providers abroad and more.

If your child attends a pre-entry class, the school has probably registered for a vocatium fair in your area. If your child's school is not participating, please contact us. Alternatively, it is also possible to attend the fair independently of the school. All 80 vocatium fairs take place during the day from 8:30-15:00. Admission is free. At vocatium, your child will talk to training companies, technical colleges, universities and institutions.

  • We prepare the students for the fairs in class.
  • We hand out fair handbooks and registration forms with the exhibitors' advisory services.
  • On this basis, we arrange fixed appointments with the exhibitors.
  • We inform the students of the appointments via the school approx. 14 days before the fair.
  • Help your child to select the four interview requests
  • You can also use the job fair handbook or the job search portal for this purpose
  • Help your child to prepare questions and application documents

We have added special forums to some of the vocatium fairs. At these forums, young people can find out more about specific occupational fields such as STEM, health, communication or social and economic affairs. Presentations, hands-on stations and other activities invite them to actively explore.

Two other special trade fairs are nordjob Bau in Neumünster and bauma in Munich.

In addition to our 80 face-to-face fairs, we offer you and your children our nationwide digital careers fair. There are special presentations for parents and the exhibitors are also ready to answer your questions. Participation is free of charge and can be organized through the school or on your own.

The parentum fairs are aimed specifically at parents with children of career choice age. Here you can get to know career paths together or gather ideas for an internship. The exhibitors are geared towards the information needs of mothers, fathers and other important life companions and provide information in talks and presentations. The fairs take place on weekdays in the afternoon or on Saturday mornings. Visits are possible without prior registration and admission is free.

Activities outside of school give your child the opportunity to try things out and discover what their talents are. This helps with career choices.

That's why our fairs also feature providers for stays abroad during and after school: High school, au pair, work and travel, voluntary service abroad, language trips, etc.

You can find out why and where your child can volunteer or complete a voluntary social year (FSJ) by talking to associations and organizations.

Several times a year, we organize nationwide digital parents' evenings under the title “Parent coaching - supporting the child on the way to professional life”.

The next parents' evening will take place on September 18 from 19:00 to 20:30. Participation is free of charge. Registration by e-mail to eltern@if-talent.REMOVE-THIS.de

Safe the date parents' evenings 2025: March 5 and September 17. Details will follow.

On September 18 at 7 p.m., the topic will be:

  • Apprenticeship - study - dual study: differences, advantages and disadvantages
  • From plant mechanics to dentistry: avoiding excessive demands. Narrowing down the options
  • Making decisions. Instead of a sofa year: Just do it! Get off to the right start.

We send out our digital parent newsletter twice a year. In it, we usually focus on a special topic such as “Finance & insurance during training, studies and gap year” or “Career prospects in STEM: mathematics, information, natural sciences & technology”. You are welcome to register free of charge.

There is a fair handbook “Opportunities in ...” for every vocatium fair. It contains important information about the participating exhibitors. Your child should therefore use the book to prepare for the vocatium fair. If your child is registered for vocatium with their school, they will receive the appropriate book free of charge during our school visits. If you are attending the fair independently of your school, you can also access the book or all nationwide editions digitally.

You will find the profiles of around 4,000 companies, technical colleges, universities, academies and other interesting training providers from Germany and abroad in our search portal. The vocatium magazine offers reading material, audios and videos on all aspects of career choice and education. Careers in selected areas, e.g. media, STEM or health, are presented on a regular basis. Browse through and be inspired!

Current aspects of career guidance are discussed at our vocatium tagungen. In 2024, the conferences will take place nationwide on the topic: “Awakening STEM interest: Inspiring pupils for mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology.” The events are open to HR and training managers, HR officers, student advisors, teachers, experts from administration and politics, as well as parents and students. Previous knowledge of STEM is not required. Registration is required, participation is free of charge.

Our activities are supported by well-known personalities and institutions. Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Federal Minister of Education and Research, is the national patron of our fairs. In many places, we are also supported by representatives from state ministries and municipal administrations. Our partners also include employment agencies, chambers of industry and commerce, chambers of trade and employers' associations. We are also supported by the Kuratorium Schule-Wirtschaft-Politik.
